It’s as American as all-get-out. Carl’s Jr. (AKA Hardee’s here in the South) has long been one of America’s best-known burger chains, and while they do have a 1400-calorie monster burger, they’ve been relegated to an also-ran lately thanks to weird new food items like the Friendly’s grilled-cheese burger melt, the KFC double-down, and even the Burger King pizza burger. Not anymore. Determined to regain a slice of America’s attention, Carl’s Jr. is unveiling an 850-calorie, foot-long cheeseburger sandwich at 50 restaurants in California. If it goes well there, it’ll make tables nationwide.

The burger is a belly-busting beast. On a foot-long sub roll, you put not one, but three, cheeseburgers. A foot of meat and cheese will run you $4, with a $4.50 deluxe version (adding lettuce and tomato) also available. I don’t see how this thing won’t become a huge hit. If there’s one thing Americans love, it’s getting a whole lot of food for very little price, and the price tag for a superburger is roughly the same as three normal cheeseburgers, but with additional bread and toppings. It’s big, but it’s not too big for the average eater.

850 calories is a lot, but in perspective, it isn't bad for that monster. A medium Jack-in-the-Box meal is 1200+ calories, and this is three patties?

Cheeseburger grinders are old news in this area, but whatever. They tend to be a little overkill as far as cheeseburgers go. 1 is good, 2 is OK, 3 is asking to be fat.

Love Carls, My all time favorite has got to be the double western but at near 1000 calories for just the burger I try not to hit em to often.
