Why is catfish getting a bad rap?

It seems nearly every person I've talked to about eating fish all have a similar view about it and how much they hate it. I actually like it.

I love it... Fried, with hush puppies, collared greens and grits.

Most have a conception that it's a mud dwelling bottom feeder. While the do spend most of their time in the mud as a wild fish, farm raised cats eat what the farmer feeds them and have a very mild and ungamey flavor. Nothing like the ones you catch yourself. I personally enjoy the fresh caught ones...but whatever. If you think catfish are bad because of their lifestyle, check out how tilapia is raised! Makes catfish look fantastic!

catfish is good IF prepared properly, but most places butcher the hell out of the fillet then batter it a deep fry it covering up the bad cut and most of the flavor. I prefer a light pan fry

For that matter wild caught is always my preference. Farm raised lacks a lot of the flavor.

I've personally been eating a lot of Cod and Salmon lately.
