Yea, I definitally agree. Periods at the end of a sentance, two spaces, and a capitol starting character works wonders.

I can usually wade through most bad punctuation and spelling. I am guilty enough of not proofreading what I type as is. Sometimes I cannot type fast enough to keep up with my brain, which results in some odd sentence structure and spellings.

It probably does not help that one of my recent girlfriends lived with me for almost a year and was only partially literate in English. She was from Taipai, so sometimes we made people bang their heads on the nearest wall when we talked.

Anyway, my biggest pet peeve... misspelling something repeatedly the same way. The worst.. "bumper" I see it on almost every automotive forum as "Bumber" at least once a month. Drives me crazy(er).

although i do think its a problem, i dont really see the example sentance you provided in the first post as that bad. The disturbing sentances are the ones where you really need to stop and read it and interpret it before you can understand the information divulged. An appropriate example would be along the lines of, "Y3$ joo N3wb i pwned the $HjT 0vt of joo"

Obviously you can follow what i was saying, because it wasnt an abstract statement, but the point is still clear. I think although that is horrible and unacceptable, something like "oh that sux man, now i got 2 go home again, and u know i aint happy bout it!" is fine since its casual convorsation and just as easy to understand as the proper version.

I love how the first post, which complains of bad typing and punctuation, does not include a single period in the entire post lmao.gif

just bustin your chops mang fing02.gif

But I know what you mean. I hate it when I see a paragraph of just random thoughts strung together, no commas, no periods, nothing but jargon.

People: Please end all sentences with some form of punctuation..."." "?" and "!" will do wonderfully.

If, as in this sentence, you'd like to seperate ideas, or create a pause in your sentence, by all means use a comma. We will thank you for it.

If you have one sentence that ends, and another that is on the same subject or relates to it coming right after it, use a semi-colon; frankly, not enough people use them these days.

and most importanly...know the difference between "know" and "no" nana.gif

I have an explanation for this problem. Many young people, including myself, spend a lot of time talking online to people and to keep up the pace of conversation they start to obreviate words and do not use capitalization and any punctuation.

I used to type like a moron back in the days, but then realized that it was rediculus and stupid. I now developed good habbits and even when I talk on AIM I type every word the way it is with punctiation and so on. Once in a while words like gonna and wanna might slip in, but it's just the way I talk and I feel that it's ok to type them.

Anyways. People need to use at least some common sense when they post, so others don't have to spend hours to read one post. I simply stop reading something that I can't understand and it's your fault that you will not get my response and my opinion smile.gif

^^exactly. I have no complaints with the abb. of words.

the only thing that makes me want to not read a post is an extremely long post with no spaces, line breaks, capitalization, etc. Just a mass of words. If you took the same mass of words. broke it up (using th eneter button) and capitalized the beginning of your thoughts..it woudl be more readable...even though it woudl make the overall post length longer.

that's the main complaint i have.

I am guilty of that as well.

I always just use three periods to break off my last thought before i return. Usually each post takes me an average of 3-5 minutes while i do other random crap in the office.

My college professors (in English classes) were very, very picky about punctuation. To this day, I find myself going over post and fixing the most minute of mistakes (unless I'm tired and just don't give a damn).

As for learning how to type, I'm so glad (I wasn't so happy at the time) that I took back to back typing and computer classes. I had typing first, which of course taught you to type, then I had computer right after that which tought typing as well. So as you can see, I got a double dose of typing which came in handy when I started my professional career.
