Yes I've created another me and he goes and steals services from Sears, crashes roomate's cars, and gets harrassed by police constantly...

Dude it sounds like you were just unlucky to leave the keys in it at the wrong time, but if he is any kind of mate he should believe you and come to some sort of agreement with you about getting something sorted with another car.
