Default So, I am getting ripped of by the gas company

So, I am getting ripped of by the gas company. Today I opened my gas bill and it was $230.00.
The only appliances that used gas are hot water heater and furnace. I keep the thermostat set at 65 degrees. I know that there is no way in hell that I am using $230 dollars a month in gas.
I call the gas company which is Northwest Natural, they said that I am enrolled in a program call the “warm” program. You are automatically enrolled into this program if you don’t opt out for it, it’s in you welcome package. ( Basically, if you are in the WARM program you pay more if the present temperatures are warmer than the 25 year average, and you pay less if the present temperatures are colder than the 25 year average).
You are locked in for the months of Nov to mid may. There is now way out.
This is total bull SH*T, how can these big companies just enroll you into a program where you pay no matter how much you use.

They de-enrolled me in the program, but it will not end until mid May.

Anyone knows if I can do anything about this?
Please help, I can’t afford this.
I am getting way over charged and the way the economy is, how can this can keep going on.

I’m not the only one that this had happen http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/...Off0128978.htm

Hmmm...doesnt sound eithical, but if they are the only Gas & Electric company there....they pretty much have free right to do what ever they want, and you have to bend over and take it.

Maybe you can contact your local politician or something and have them look into it. Doesnt seem right that they can do that without getting an authorization from you.

Talk to everyone's manager until you find someone who can un-enroll you immediately. I'm sure that person exists.

I have natural gas here and to lock in to the set price would have been like your talking about ($260/mo.), only all year round. I chose not to do it, and keeping our gas heat at 65 cost us $350 last month. IDK, your price doesn't sound terrible to me.

The hell with the gas. Im going to turn off the heater and plug in my little electric heater. Hopefully that will cut down on the cost. We mainly live upstair so it should be that cold up there....
