Default slow down!!! my kids play through here!

before we start, i understand the necessity to drive safely. i understand that no one wants to see anyone innocent get hurt. i understand to look out for one another-...

BUT, i will not take crap from anyone telling me to slow down when i am already doing the speed limit if not less-...

i was driving around my neighborhood doing less than 25mph (posted speed limit) and i got shitty looks from one person and an audible "slow down" from a couple doing yard work. i stopped for the couple and explained to them that i was doing less than the speed limit and they continued to tell me to slow down. then they piped up w/ there are kids who ride their bikes in the street who almost get hit all the time-... i'd hate to ever hit a kid with a car, bike, unicycle, rollerskates etc. but if the same kids are almost getting hit all of the time-.. i think a few things need to happen first before we civilians policing speed limits w/ no actual data:

teach kids (thoroughly) in school about road saftey and if the option of a sidewalk is available that they should use it.

lower the speed limit-... hate to say this but if the whole neighborhood agrees that everyone goes too fast then something needs to be done.

for some reason in every driving course i've ever taken it never mentions to "look before you leap". what i mean is, why does it always seem that i'm the only one who tries to wrap their eyes around the corner before they initiate that turn? how is this not common practice?

maybe it's because my car is louder than a prius but quieter than a harley that when i'm doing 25mph it sounds like i'm doing 2500000mph. but if i continue to let @$$hats try to dictate rules w/o any substance or authority, i'm going to start barking back @ them-... if i see them pushing a shopping cart in the grocery store i will tell them to slow down-... or if they're running down the sidewalk-... i will tell them to slow down. i can go on but i won't.

can i get some feedback on this?

I had the same issue with some twat around the corner from me. I was out on my motorcycle doing laps around my neighborhood at less than 15mph (its an unposted 25mph in residential here) and slowing down even more when I see children. The twat mother kept yelling at me to slow down. I stopped and told her I was doing less than the speed limit and that if she wanted to let her children play in the street with vehicles approaching, that was her issue and that I would be more than happy to get the police involved. She STFU'd after that.

Fast forward 6 months or so and my dad is driving through his neighborhood and had to stop for children playing in the street. When he honked for them to GTFO of the way, the dad came down and yelled at him about how he's always 'flying' through the neighborhood. My dad does the same thing I do, but is sick of having to stop for the kids. He got the police department involved and they told him they can be fined for obstruction of traffic. My dad taped the letter from the police to their front door and he hasn't heard anything from the guy since. Kids are still out in the street, but they move now.

Agree with you one hundred percent. I've had quite a few people do this to me, especially on the bisecting street where the street is a f_ing fertility garden of eden playground of average joes. It's despicable and disgusting.

Kids shouldn't play on the street. That's what backyards are for. If they do they should be strictly trained to get the hell out of the way. It's a public street for public use, not private use.

I've been yelled at too. I think it's because they see a fast-looking sporty loud car and can't tell the difference between your car and this:

Then when the real speeders come along going 40+mph, it doesn't really matter.

I been yelled at since I've been 16!

I had a guy that lived around the corner from my parents (when I lived there) that would yell at me EVERY chance he got. He wrote a letter and put it in my parents mailbox complaining about my driving, he even phone the police on me a couple times. I was 16, I wasn't the best driver, but this guy took things a little far. I wanted vandalize his property for revenge, but my Mom stopped me and promised we would find a way to get him back legally. He taught piano out of his house and would advertise his business on his lawn with a sign, which is illegal in our city. We called by-law many times, he was fined the third time by-law was out and was forced to take down the sign permanently. NICE! The next summer he built a fence around his backyard, I called the city to make sure he had a permit. Turns out you don't need a permit for a fence, but you do need to have the nice side of the fence facing the neighbors. LOL! The fence had to be torn down and re-built! LOL!! Needless to say, the guys house went up for sale a few months later and it was the last we ever saw of him. Lesson - Don't mess with me and my family.

Another time that sticks out was last summer in my neighborhood. I was around the corner from my house leaving to go to the store or something. My car has an intake so sounds a little loud. I drove past a family walking (2 parents and 2 kids **4 and 6??) doing 25 km/h (50km/h limit not posted). I don't speed in my own neighborhood. The husband yells at me to slow down...... I stop, and say "I'm going 25?!". Guy says "I don't give a fvck, slow down!". So I reverse my car and get out. The guy looked like he was going to sh*t himself! LOL! I asked him if he knew what the speed limit was? I didn't let him answer, I said "50km/h! I was going 25 km/h!" "If you'd like I'd be more than happy to increase my speed to 50 km/h and drive by YOUR house all day". (He lived down the street a few houses down) "Sound good?" He didn't answer, he just stood there speechless, I guess he figured I wouldn't confront him? I was walking back to my car by then, I looked at his wife and said "that's quite the husband you have there." (referring to how he turn into a complete coward when I approached him). I still see them once in a while around the neighborhood, but he can't even look me in the eye. Lesson - Don't open your mouth if you don't plan on backing it up when confronted.

Oh man, this thread is my life. I live at the bottom of a medium hill, so of course my car (with an exhaust) is under load when I leave my house. Sure enough, I get the 'SLOW DOOOWN' from the grouchy old neighbour. I stopped to try and explain that I was only doing 40 km/h in an unposted 50 zone, but he was so mad that he wouldn't even listen - he just talked over the top of me saying that he didn't believe me and he will report me for hooning. I ended up going to his house the next day to try and explain it again, and he was being pretty cool about it, but he was still irrationally mad about the speed I was doing?

I also got the same deal when I was delivering pizzas. I pull into a street to find like fifteen little kids playing cricket in the middle of the road. They slowly clear off and I roll past them and drive off - no worries! When I get back to the store, there's a blisteringly angry man on the phone ranting about 'everybody speeding down his (lol) street, and I should get sacked for threatening his kids, and where are the owners of the store because their car can get impounded for hooning'... The boss ended up calming him down, but to this day I'm confused about why he called. I usually thrash the sh*t out of the delivery car, but I was barely crawling down that street?

Anyway, I guess people get territorial or whatever. If you CBF'd supervising your kids while they play on the road, don't take it out on the next car that has to stop to preserve your legacy. Sheesh.

HKC I would think the ice falling off the side of a rocket and not off the side of a car would be a clue but then the govermint skool might not be so good for teaching that stuff.

Pas that's what you might call "active karma" right there.

lmao @ pas! that's friggin' amazing i love it!

i like the fact that wheel of steel tried multiple times to rationally explain to the guy what was really happening.

it's so funny that these people think we're just hauling @$$ through our/their neighborhood yet when we get called out on it-... we stop and take the time out of our day to right the wrongful accusations.

My favorite is the people who do 45 in a 55, then continue on doing 45 in the 30 zone right after it...
