Well, I spent yesterday morning cancelling all my credit cards & getting a replacement driver's license because my car was broken into Monday morning in the wee hours.

It looks as though they just stuck a big screwdriver in the passenger side door-lock & that's about all they had to do...



I NEVER leave my wallet in the car but when I got home at 1am I was tired & forgot it in the driver's side door pocket, which is where I put it when I'm driving. The central locking has been playing up lately so I only manually lock the doors: the alarm wasn't set sad.gif

They only took my wallet, a pack of cigarettes & a lighter (& a couple of grams of stuff that we don't talk about on these forums).

They'd gone through all my receipts in the center-console, all my rego papers in the glove box & just threw everything all over the place. They went through my CD case that's hidden under the driver's seat (it has about 20 pretty decent CDs in it) but just left it on the floor. Thankfully they left the Pioneer head-unit I got a few months ago too. The steering wheel would've been easy to steal with an allen ket as well but they didn't bother. The ignition lock doesn't look to have been tampered with either.

I think I'm going to have to fork out for a good alarm system as I'd be completely screwed if the car ever got stolen. Insurance is only for third party property & injury... doesn't cover theft sad.gif

I hate thieves...

 

Well, I've never stuck a screwdriver into the door handle, but I do know from experience that our Tibs are quite easy to break into if you know the car. I know I locked my keys in that thing numerous times, and it was surprisingly simple to run a coat hanger down from the side of the window and pop the trunk (I found the trunk was far easier than the slippery, heavy door locks with actuators on them) and then climb in through the back.

 

oh that just blows... it's because your car is so nice now. they probably thought you had bumpin' system in there or something.

 

The car is filthy at the moment. Haven't washed it for weeks, lol. Doesn't look like much at all.

I reckon they walked past with a flashlight & maybe saw the wallet in the door. They didn't even touch the deck.

 

All these topics of tibs getting broken into is making me really nervous. I think I'm going to have to get a security system too. I'm sorry about your car 02.gif I hate people lol

 

Yeah, it's very easy to get into our cars, all they do is smack a screwdriver into the lock and use a pair of vise grips locked to the handle so they have some leverage to spin it, it's not only Hyundai's but that will also work on Hondas and toyotas or any other Japanese import for that matter, that method will also work on the ignition locks in our cars to as sad as that sounds. I have a few hidden kill switches in my car, one for the power to the ecu and one for the fuel pump, helps me sleep at night.

 

Yes!!! I know I have locked my keys in my car several times and my fiance has a set of tools mechanics or tow truck drivers use to open cars in that situation. The windows.... the BEND easy and are very easy to move (not even up and down). The GK is a lot harder....

 

Soz to hear Tim..It prob was some dumb 13 year old kids that just had nuthin to do..I noticed that my cars pasanger sides lock is pushed in for some reason, i dont even know why its like that..=D ive got an alarm system and my car is in an underground garage with automatic gate, so i think no one would try to brake in =P~

 

This is why I don't have door handles. Also my Windows are limo tinted and I always put up a refective sunscreen in the windshield when I park my car somewhere so you cannot see in it at all.

And thankfully I have a garage I park my car in at night.

 

yes, ive broken into my car on more than one occasion within about a minute. doesnt take long, isnt hard, and doesnt make noise. a good alarm is the only way to go
