Wow,
So about 2030 today I was heading up to the gf's college at Geneseo, NY. I'm almost there on rt 63s (55mph) when some jackass in what im 99% sure was a 2000 grand am gt (had about .25 sec to look at him, couldnt get a plate) pulls RIGHT out infront of me from a stop sign on my right (he is making a left). I swerve into the sholder to avoid him, the tires skid so I turn back into the lane but I fishtale, so I'm headed for the guardrail on the oncoming side, crank the wheel and do a 180 into the guard rail on my side, the Tib bounced off, distroyed the front end, does a 180 again and the rear end hits the same guardrail and I see said jackass gun it away. I am totally fine, not a scratch, but man, Tib is gone. Luckily, the front bumper went under the guard rail, missing the airbag sensor, and they didnt deploy. I am a HUGE advocate for seatbelts now. I had so much of my own work into the car, streetglow, cb radio, gps, new headunit, sub setup, and all the wiring to go with it. So yeah, just wanted to vent, thanks for reading. Below is my cell pic of the result, I want to cry.

Insurance appraisal is tuesday morning, but I'm pretty sure they would be nuts to try and repair it. I would guess the headers are cracked, frame is bent, all sorts of fun engine work would be needed...

yeah airbags should have deployed. guess it's a hit or miss in an older hyundai.

Well, if you look at the actual bumper that would have the airbag sensor in it, it doesnt seem to be touched. I think it totally slid under the guardrail, and on the first bounce it just ripped the plastic shrowd off. If I was a couple feet in either direction it would have hit a support beam for the guardrail and then most likely would have deployed.
And yes, I'm walking around campus today looking in all the lots, if I happen to stumble on anything (never being 100% sure it was the same car) I would just leave a friendly note on the windshield...

as I learned last summer when I was faced with a similar choice (I chose the grass, not knowing there was a drainage ditch in the middle of it) I would have hit them. Probably would have done less damage to the car
