I Hate Salt Trucks.
Last week, I was driving down the Garden State Parkway from north Jersey to south Jersey, coming back from a Korn autograph signing. Now we began to get a blizzard since it was a Nor'Easter coming from the south. The freakin' salt trucks were going 30mph on a 65mph toll road. It wasn't much of a blizzard yet. Just some snow that wasn't sticking. I guess they were just preparing. But TWO trucks were sidebyside in the left and middle lanes. There are 3 lanes. We all know that you pass on the left, slow to the right. So now I'm sitting here going 30mph on a 65mph road pissed, especially since I had work within 2 hours.
How do they expect drivers to pass without getting nailed by the chunks of salt? I just clenched my wheel and floored it past the trucks, but I heard CLACK CLACK CLACK. Ugh. :\
I checked out my car 2 days later when the sun was out, and thankfully, there is no damage. My boyfriend was saying that I should have called and complained to the Parkway maintenance office or whatever it's called. Cars need to pass these trucks, and they made it impossible.
I hate winter.

You should still get the car checked out better.... cars shouldn't go "ugh".... =P
Yeah there really isn't a way around them doin that... they need to get the left lanes first cause they know people are going to be going fast on them.... just me glad you weren't stuck behind 3 of them all doing the highway at the same time

But in Cali is rains liberal whackos. tongue.gif
Salt trucks are bad, but IMO the year round dump trucks loaded with gravel are worse. They send a shower of rocks every time they hit a pothole. And they conveniently can't be held responsible since they have keep back signs. Whatever.

I'd have to agree with kcvortex on the ugh thing.... cars aren't supposed to do that.
I know exactally where you're comming from. I used to live in montana. There isn't a dang thing you can do about it. Everyone needs to get to work and they're facilitating it.

I feel your pain Toxic.
I hate it when you have massive salt on your car though because of those trucks..its just horrible. i dont like winter in general..too cold, and too much snow. However, Im glad that salt trucks exist otherwise thered e no way we could even drive on these roads.

You all bring up good points.
But my car didn't go "ugh."
And if they were salting the roads, they should do one lane at a time and not 2 on a 3-lane road. They didn't even have signs on the back of the trucks either. For all I know, they could have been plows. You didn't see the salt until you drove up closer to them or, unfortunately, heard the stuff hit your car.
And around here... salt trucks don't salt the roads. I have to drive on ice or hardened snow most of the time. On the main roads and highways in my area, the cars already driving just break/melt it down. My area doesn't really send out the plows or salt trucks... ever.
