This is interesting.. didn't know that you could get a CEL even if you didn't tighten up the gas cap properly and/or keep it on the threads. I'll keep this in mind.

yes, it is an emissions related CEL. The tank cannot properly pressurize with the cap loose.

Heh, you guys think it's funny, but when you take your car for ODBII Emissions Testing they TEST YOUR CAP.

REDZ is right... they have a little machine that the cap screws into.

It's a good thing they do not do that with older cars. Both my fiat and my lancia have metal gas caps (brass actually) with pipe threads... and yes, that is stock. It was something they used to do in Italy. (and yugoslavia too, to look at the Yugo.

Such crazy things.

Anyway, we unplugged the battery and plugged it back in 15 minutes later and the CEL went off, and all is well now. I also filled up my tank again and no problems since.
