Hi everyone!
I'm trying to clean up my engine bay a little and I removed the heat shield to clean it properly. It is sprayed with a lot of dirt, but I am having trouble removing it (probably because of the high temperatures and because nobody cleaned it in 5 years..). I tried an engine cleaner product (black magic engine shine 2-in-1), aircraft remover, even battery terminal cleaner smile.gif) but it doesn't seem to come off. I used a toothbrush on a small area and brushed with engine cleaner for 5 minutes on a small area and it barely seems cleaner than the rest. Any ideas on what I can use? What's the most heavy duty thing you can use to clean metal? Thanks!

Sand it down and paint it with some high temperature paint, it's they only way to make it look for a while.

I was wondering about that ^^^ too. lmao.gif

mediablasting is the only quick/easy/cheap way to get metal like that perfectly clean again.

Otherwise just clean the contaminates off of it the best you can and rattle can it...

I used Simoniz chrome cleaner and an SOS pad. It got the best results from anything I tried, but just clean it and rattle can it black.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but I have been wanting to clean my shield but have found it almost impossible to remove. Is there a good way to go about removing it with like WD-40 or something in that area?

For me, the right screw was easy and the one in the center was missing smile.gif. But the one on the left I couldn't get it to open and it didn't seem very safe to force it. I used some Liquid Wrench on it (add a few drops, tap a little with a hammer, repeat 3-4 times) and I left it like 20 minutes and then it came off.
