San Francisco residents are fighting to get Larry Flynt’s mobile strip club off their streets.
Flynt’s “Hustler Club Truck” makes its rounds in the city most Friday and Saturday nights, CBS Sacramento reports. Photographs of nearly nude women adorn the outside of the truck, but the real action is on the inside — full-length windows allow passersby to see strippers dancing and gyrating around a pole, serving as a mobile advertisement for Hustler’s strip club in the Financial District.
But recently, the truck’s driver has been calling it quits in the city’s Outer Richmond neighborhood, parking at the end of the long nights near the corner of 37th Ave. and Gearty, infuriating local residents.
“It’s right by a library and an elementary school," City Supervisor Eric Mar told the Daily News. “You can see it from a mile away.”
Mar says he’s fielded about a dozen complaints from people in the residential neighborhood.
“Mostly they’re women. Parents,” he said. “There’s a general feeling from people that these kinds of vehicles, with large photographs of scantily clad women, shouldn’t be there."
Mar had the truck towed for expired tags about a month ago, but says it soon returned, this time parking a few blocks up on 42nd and Gearty.
Mar says he thinks the truck is driven by a Hustler Club employee who lives in the area, which is home to many immigrants.
“I would compare it to Flushing or parts of Queens,” he explained. “Lots of immigrant families, very diverse, that’s the type of neighborhood we’re talking about.”
San Francisco law already prohibits commercial vehicles from parking on city streets, “so advertising doesn’t become a blight in residential areas,” Mar says. But the strip club has repeatedly ignored requests to ask the truck’s driver to park elsewhere.
Mar says local police are working to enforce the law, but he will consider meeting with the city attorney to introduce new legislation and get the truck off the road permanently.
“If I had to look at [the truck\] out my window every single morning, I would be really frustrated,” he said.
A call to Hustler Club San Francisco was not returned on Monday.
