The Hyundai wheel bearing lasted me 140,000 miles, this Timken front wheel bearing only lasted 10,000 miles. Lots of people told me that Hyundai wheel bearings are crap, but dang this was worse!! Just to warn you folks, Don't get Timken wheel bearings!!!!

Anyone recommend me good wheel bearings that's cheaper than Hyundai's?


Edit: I blame this on myself too; it didn't even come with a warranty. I'm a dumb shopper.

 

IDK the brand, but I bought two from Advance Auto that still run fine.

 

Mine didnt last very long - i blame it on the shop that pressed it - Most likely they pressed the inner race right out.

 

Ok, maybe I shouldnt' blame 100% on Timken. It could of been the machine shop too, because the right front works fine.

 

it's easy to damage them when pressing them in. Go take the hub to a shop that's done it before. The guy I took it to specializes in tranny work so I figured he'd done a few and he said it was the hardest he'd ever done.

 

Timkin can be bought at alot of places, such as Autopart Internationale (formarly Foreign Auto), Auto Zone i believe, and Consumer Auto Parts.

I have heard nothing but good things about Timkin bearings. That is what most people replace the bad ones with.

 

i have a timken bearing on my car right now and it works fine. i think KR either installed improper OR his shop did something wrong. but those bearings are just fine.

 

It is definately the shop. Have you guys watched them do it before? Or tried it yourself?

The hub is extremely odd in shape, so it makes it hard to get a good flat spot to press the bearing down into it. You need to have several different pieces of metal to fit perfectly on the bearing so the press can do its job.
It's hard to explain, but next time try to watch them do it. It's not an easy thing to do. But it IS easy to F it up.

 

Yeah, Timkin is probably one of the best companies out there for bearings. Probably the shop that installed them screwed it up. Take it back and demand they fix it.
