They would be cool for a show car but I think for a daily driver, they would fall apart on the first bump or pothole you hit.

 

iirc there are a couple of supercars running full CF wheels. It really comes down to how they are made and what from. A cheap 3k twill, like most cosmetic parts are made from, is really only good as the surface material. Below you can have very strong and very thick carbon that is still much lighter and stronger than many metals. I would rock a set in a heartbeat, but the cost is insane.



Its also depends on whether were talking about a cosmetic issue or weight.

Carbon wheels can be super light, and that unsprung weight loss is phenomenal! But if its just for the look plenty of places will wrap wheels, it's just not cheap.

 

Weds Sport makes a full carbon fiber wheel, set of four costs about $10k IIRC.

 

Would run for racecar only. Imagine kerbing a set...

They're actually fantastic for suspension performance, like tibbi said. Street cars just tend to get a rougher life and will have a 99% chance of not being tuned to take advantage of the wheels anyway.

 

I don't think those ever were for sale for real. According to Weds the wheels they made a few years ago were a proof of concept for marketing and r&d. The $10k price tag best I can tell was pretty much a theoretical price. Also being a single piece wheel I wouldn't dream of running them on a street car. As stated by Wheel driving that on the street is a recipe for disaster. Now as a 3 piece with deep pocket and a lot off accepted casualties maybe, but it's hard to justify. Though fun to dream.

Just wrap a good set of rims and lie to people at the meet.

 

HRE make CF wheels, IIRC they cost $30K+ for a set. I saw it on an episode of Jay Leno's garage.

 

Dymag makes CF wheels. I wouldn't want them for a street car because they're actually too stiff. Metal wheels have some give and absorb sharp impacts. CF wheels don't like sharp impacts. They tend to shatter. This is why you usually only see them on race cars and bikes.
