When changing brake pads
Do you change all 4 corners at once, or only the front/rear when it's needed? I change all 4 at the same time. I know the rears dont wear as fast as the fronts, but I just think it's better to do it all together so you have fresh pads all around instead of new on the front and old on the back or vice versa.

^ this.
If you have one caliper sticking and wear out a pad in 1000 miles, do you change the other four? It's silly when you take it to an extreme, because it's silly. Change parts as they wear out, or to suit driving requirements (new pads on track day, soft pads for street etc).

>replacing front pads
>not replacing rear pads, all four rotors, installing racing slicks and relocating battery to the trunk at the same time, to maximise stopping power

This thread may just jinx me. I have
never
replaced my rear brake shoes. The car just ticked over 190,000 miles. Feel free to waste your money on brake pads if you like, but please understand that replacing brakes that are not worn-out is just that - a waste.

I'm on my factory original rear brake shoes on the Accent at 194k miles. They're just now due for replacement finally. I've had several lapping days and 7 years of autocross on them.
I've been through at least a dozen sets of front pads. My rear brakes do just slightly more than nothing.

This. I order new pads and shoes for my '08 Accent that has 95k on them. I was sure they needed changing. The fronts weren't even half worn and the rears were almost the same as new.
Better to just take the time to clean them all up, check the rotors and drums for thickness and adjust the shoes if you need to.
