Hey, this sucks, seems like every tiburon out there is on the mend. Here is my problem.

Some have prolly heard about my mishap on the highway, I blew a tire and damaged a rim, badly. Since then I have been getting almost a humming sound when I'm on the highway, or going over 60kph. It gets louder when I turn the wheel slightly to the right. Right away I thought "Wheel Bearing". No Dice, everything looks fine, no movement from the wheel at all. If I go slower, it sounds like it's throbbing, it's actually a slower sound, it gets louder as I go faster. I'm thinking it has something to do with my axles. Anyone have this problem at all or have and idea what it is.

I would suggest a new bearing. If you have a new/used spindle laying around or a junk yard local. I would try swaping it out. or jut go buy a new bearing.

Yea its gotta be your bearing, my Fiance' had a problem with her Grand Am...biggest POS car pontiac ever made..but thats besides the point, the wheel would not wiggle at all..but when i replaced the bearing..well..i mean the WHOLE hub assembly for 120 dollars, it fixed it..sometimes they dont show signs of wear, but the bearings inside are shot..hope this helps mang smile.gif

Yeah... definitely the bearing...

Sometimes, even just handling them does it :x

Like AEMTIB01, I too recently had to go get a whole wheel hub assembly from the wreckers (only $50 AUD) as I'd broken a wheel stud on the front right side...

Captive rotors meant the whole assembly needed to be taken apart if I wanted to change the stud... Was easier to just replace the whole thing than to take a chance with the old bearing & maybe need to replace it later anyway.

Not to mention Hyundai's are very know for wheel bearing problems. I still have to replace mine. Sounds exactly as you described.

When i had this noise, it was the CV joint, not the wheel bearing. Almost sounded like a grinding at low speed and got worse as speed went up. The XD's didnt have aftermarket replacements at that time so i had to pay dealer price for a new joint which was 270 bucks. Is your CV boot in good condition?

I was thinking it was a bearing but I have replaced them all I thought. I'll check my records and see. For some reason I'm thinking there was one I didn't change.

My first indication was that I bent an axle or something. When my driver side front went it was constant, loud humming, with no difference when I turned the wheel. Oh well I'll check her out and see.

Thanks guys.

yea like i said earlier, my fiance's car would be real quiet and grinding when going slow, but as u sped up it got loud. almost sounded like an airplane. then when she would turn her wheel it would get louder or quieter depending on the way she turned..sucked...not hard to replace but PITA none the less. 02.gif

Okay. All signs are pointing to bearing. I jsut check my service reports and the pass. side one is the only one I haven't replaced. Just happens to be where the sound is coming from. Funny eh? Thanks guys.
