What are the advantages of 2-piece or 3-piece wheels?

Default What are the advantages of 2-piece or 3-piece wheels?

Every time I see a 2-piece or 3-piece wheel, they advertise the fact that its a true 2-piece or 3-piece and is much less prone to being bent or cracking. Is this true and are there any performance advantages to it?

there supposed to be more lightweight than conventional one peice rims

Depending on construction, there's a better chance of being killed when you mount a tire. Other than that, unless you're rocking four wheels out back it's more of a bullet point on the flyer than a real selling point for me.
