ok now i have searched found nothing. i know that we dont have abs but i dont think my front brakes should lock up as much as they have to me. for example i am on a road going the limit (35) and the car in front of me (about 3 car lengths) stops. i apply a regular amount of brake once i see his brake lights. then add little more and the front just locks up on me and i go slidding for about 5 yards. no kidding. this has happened to me twice now all going the speed limit in normal flow of traffic. and i am not a gas, brake, gas brake kind of driver. I know some people might say that i need new tires but i just bought brand new front tires in july. the pads are good (also had them replaced in july)

I just want to know if anyone else has this problem. and if any one has any good advise on what to do.

Thanks sorry for the long read.

Well, maybe you got crappy tires? I used to drive a saturn around with good brand tires. But the rims got bent and i was gonna sell the car to my brother so i could buy another car. I didnt want to give him the car with bad rims cuz they would flatten out and such.

My neighbor who had a cobalt said he liked em and that he would trade me for the steelies on his and he'll fix em. It was a set of Konigs so he really wanted them and the wheels on his were the factory ones, they had like 500 miles on it.

SO i agreed and after i put those on the car the same thing started happening, they would lose traction quite easily. That being said, what kind of tires do you have?

now thats weird, those are good tires. when you press the brakes are they very touchy? meaning they stop hard even though you go easy on em.

Hey,

I'm just going to throw this out there and someone will come along and fix what i say lol. It "could" be in the caliper there are 2 pins. I'm pretty sure the pins are used to keep pusing the pad out. Sometime the pins get rusted and stuck because the boot gets cut, thus when you hit the breaks they stick or lock easy. When my car started doing this i pulled them out, and regreased them. I'll have to find the technical term for the part i'm refering to though.

Best i could do .. lol

*Edit* "Locating Pin" I think that's what it's called

^^ +1 Caliper slides.

The pins are there to make even pressure on either side of the brakes. If they were rusted or bent, it might do exactally what you're saying. It could be that it won't make contact until it gets enough pressure, then when it does, it gets past the rough/bent spot on the sliders and presses hard on the rotor.

remove your front tires and check for un-even tire wear. If you have too much positive or negative camber, you may be riding your front tires on a small portion of rubber. I have that problem right now, and rear-ended some guy, on Thursday, at 20km/h (approximately), by the time I got to him, 'cause my tie rods are gone. It might not be your problem, but it's worth a check. Just remove your front tires, or at least turn your tires all the way, and check the outer/inner tire for excessive tire-wear.

Could also be only one brake is catching. If you have air in your lines, that could cause the problem. Does it seem that the left front is the only one catching? That's the closest to the master cylendar. If you had alot of air in the lines, it would be the first one to catch.

1. tread wear looks good
2.dont think i have air in the brakes or that one is catching
3 I am going to my dads shop were he works Monro Muffler and Brake and i think i am just going to have all 4 rotors turned or if they are too bad just get all four new ones.

I dont know if warped rotors would cause this but they are defenitly warped bad vibration under braking and chugging feeling when slow speed braking. and even a little squel(Spelling)
