Default Tire Performance

I am getting ready to purchase some new rims and tires for spring & summer. After much debate I have elected to go with 16" rims and yokohama prada spec II tires. I've heard good things about these tires.. I guess I just need to hear from ppl I trust on what tire you recommend. The Yoks look good and are rated well on tire rack and are priced pretty well. Anyone have any input or opinions?

I had some of the original yok paradas. I was very unimpressed. They squeeled very easy, didn't offer a lot of grip (wet or dry).

I went to Kumho 712's and was a tad happier with wet and dry grip, but I'm still looking for more.

My next set will be the Falken Azenis.

I've been happy with my Falken ZE-512's... more than Kumhos 712's... but don't know much about the yoks.

I've heard that about the Originals, but the Prada II's are rated pretty well on TireRack... Plus they are a good price, so I'mma give em a shot. I'll let you know what I find.

I'm hoping that upgrading to 16s with those tires and a strut bar from SR will greatly improve handling. We'll see tho.

i'm running prodigy sport 7000s. they're made by yokohama, but branded as prodigy. i paid $79/tire (205/40/17), and i'm very satisfied with them thus far. i haven't given them much of a test in the wet, though, but dry handling is very good. smile.gif though i'm sure there are better tires out there, but for $79, they're not bad at all.

If ya want a very excellent tires and money is no factor than get the Nitto 555 or 455 series tires. Excellent on water or dry teraine. Ive owned them for all three sets of my rims and they never have gotten blister or popped because of imperfections in them.

Kumhos would be my next choice, though. their preety good too.

The fastest cars in SCCA Solo2 street tire classes run Falken Azenis.

yeah, i've heard falken azenis are the best, but the treadwear is awful...like very bad. way beyond the "normal" bad for high performance tires.

Well with my new rims I'm thinking maybe the Hankook Ventrus K104s or HRII H405s. Anyone have any opinions on these?

Or I may go back to my old Kumhos.

i agree with dave, i know first hand the handling capabilites of falken azenis sports. My friend runs them on his mugen cf48s in scca sts class. They are however very noisy on the road and treadwear is 200 which might as well be a R rated tire you can find them for about 43 bucks for 14s and like 50 and some change for 15s. I run falken 512s which were very well priced for my 15s at like 52 a tire, they are just good economical summer tires. Grip pretty well with some pressure tuning and aren't bad in the rain either. i think the treadwear was like 300 something. I've heard good things about the hankook tires, yet another korean tire manufacturer, they have sponsored a lot of cars for scca. They are pretty cheap too.
