Chrome plating is expensive and very few places do real chrome any more.
There are plenty of alternative methods that replicate the look perfectly, cost far less, don't have the same environmental impact (if you give a sh*t about that), and don't weight nearly as much. Plus if it ever gets f*cked up you just take a trip down to your local paint shop to get it fixed, rather than the 6-8 week turn around for proper chrome.
Unless you're going for nostalgia there's virtually no point.
