Well I think they are called shims, but anyways, I was talking about the front calipers all the time, you are using this pic just to illustrate, or were you talking about rear calipers?

picture was only illustration. Front calipers have similar metal thing.

Here is pic from WebTech (it's front caliper):



shims (underlined by green) are a bit different, they are on each pad and contact with caliper and piston.

I'm talking about thing in red. On picture is showed only lower spring, but there is also upper.

Of course now I know exactly what you're talking about. Thanks for taking the time to search for the pic.
I'll try to get that part when I change my pads, if you didn't tell me, I would have never guessed that thing could help with the caliper noise.

BTW, when you'll change your pads check guide rods and lube them with caliper lube. It will prevent them from stucking.
