So no one actually answered my question except for the 16"s

What about the 17's? How low can you go with those? Tire size 205/40

tanc did interepret your first post correctly that by 1.5" and "higher" you mean 1.5"+ of lower? does that even make sense?? haha

I really want to know about that potential problem with the gr-2s...

Well, there are many ppl hear that are running GR2's with no problems but it depends on there drop. This is why I ask the question. Maybe the DSM GR2's are a bit different who knows.

Like I said, my wife's RD1 has 17's. I'm not sure of the tire size but I can check.

Check the KYB website. The manufacturer says they are good with lowering springs up to 1.5 ". They also offer a lifetime warranty on their struts but not if you lower your car more than 1.5". If you use the product outside of the parameters the manufacturer specifys you are taking your chances and forget about the warranty. The GR2's seem to work well with the Eibach springs but they are only a 1.2 " drop. This is the setup I just purchased.

If you are lowering your car by 1.75" you better get some different struts intended for that, maybe the KYB AGX's.

about this 1.5" thing... A good friend of mine drives a pontiac grand prix with a 1.75 and 1.9 inch drops with the gr-2s and has had it that way for months with no problems. according to him, many, MANY grand prixs use this exact same setup. maybe it IS just a dsm thing...
