Default Suspension noise found -- swaybar problem

Hey guys,
I found the noise, it was the swaybar bushing. Apparently the paint came off and fuzed itself onto the bushing, which was devoid of grease (I thoroughly greased it before installing it). Anyway, it was responsible for the awful noises.

So now what?? Do I regrease and reinstall? Should I ask whiteline for some new bushings or a new bar? Is there a trick to greasing the bushings? I just smeared the inside and sides, then slipped the bushings over the bar and that was it. It moved freely after I installed it; this problem must have been recent.

Any thoughts? They are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
ac

I am really glad I don't have to buy new struts and springs. That can be put off till next year. smile.gif

I would just try re-greasing it. If that does not work, then contact whiteline about a replacement or a fix.

I hope mine doesn't start making a bunch of noise.

well, I regreased the bushings and the rod (smothered them in it) and reassembled. I will take special care to listen for new noises every few months. I think the grease they shipped with it is crap, that's why it ran out. The new stuff is a bit thicker and shouldn't squeeze out.

If this fails, I'll talk to whiteline about new bushings and any other suggestions.

I'm having this same problem with my rear sway bar from Whiteline. After several months, I started hearing a bad squeeking sound. I took the bushings off and found that the paint had come off the bar and the bushings were bone dry. I re-greased everything... it sounded ok for a few days but now it is starting to make awful noises again when you hit bumps.

I refuse to take it off and put on the stock bar because I think it is the best mod I have done so far, but the noise thing is terrible.

Has anyone else had this problem with their sway bar? Should I use a different grease or what?

What kind of grease did you use, and how thick was it? Also, did you try to replace the bushings?

THe bushings are polyurethane units supplied by whiteline with the rear swaybar.

The grease is also supplied by them on initial application.

That is strange...I checked mine...my paint is still on, and the bushing is still greased...

Did you guys over tighten the sway bar bushing mounts? They are only supposed to be 15 or 18 ft lbs (I'll check again shortly). If you over tighten the bushing mounts, that will squeeze the grease out and cause the poly bushing to rub on the bar.

Also..are you out the outter most setting or inner most? Inner most is stiffest, and allows the least movment/travel of the swaybar and may also help.

I need to go and check mine now b/c I have been hearing that exact same noise of my car. I thought it was struts but I guess I was wrong.

Random, that may be it. I couldn't get my torque wrench comfortably under there, so I did it by "feel". I probably overtightened it and sqeezed the grease out.

I'm changing my oil next weekend (weather permitting, again sad.gif ), so I'll have another look-see.

good luck all,
ac

I have my bar on the middle setting. Hell, maybe I did overtignten the bolts that hold the bushing mounts on. I did it by feel too... good thing I have an extra sway bar laying around :-)

Any reccomendations on better lubrication for the bushings? I'm out of the stuff that they sent me...
