I do this for a living. LOL

Hit any curbs recently? Bad potholes? Unusually large roadkill??

Are any of your wheels bent? Warped?

How are your lower ball joints? Your CV axles? Strut mounts? Brakes?

Do the tires have uneven wear?
EX: chopping -- repetitive flat spots

Ii the air pressure to spec?

All of these questions could relate to your problem. Hell, it could be something on the highway making you feel like there's something wrong.

Makes sense about the alignment not having anything to do with the shakiness. Although, I've heard its always a good idea to have the alignment checked before new tires are installed.
The shakiness I feel is very spuradic, but happens on all roads somewhere aroudn 65 or above. What's really strange is sometime if i speed up or slow down a little it will either go completely away or be barely noticable...kind of why I figured it was the balance of the tires which was the problem. The rims and tire package I have coming includes hub centric rings, so good to hear those may help.

BTW - I live in Iowa, not hitting a pothole is impossible...although I am able to miss the big ones smile.gif

Align wheels after new tires are installed. Aligning wheels with old worn tires won't get you a "zero" setting.

It's always good to do a four wheel alignment. This ensures your rear wheels are within specs as well and your steering wheel is straight. A two wheel alignment won't guarantee a straight steering wheel unless they measure thrust angle against the rear tires.

Thanks for the information. I was going to have the alignment check before the new tires were put on...now I'll wait until after the new rims and tires are on.

could be wheel bearings, check that. jack up the front of your car and shake the wheel if it moves then bearings are bad, same problem i had with mine. replaced them on both sides. check you tie rods too! i replaced mine last week cause my steering wheel was shaking and it helped but i need my tires balanced.

Shake up and down for wheel bearings.

Side to side for tie rod ends.

For ball joints: Jack up vehicle fairly high. Get another jack underneath the tire you're checking. Lift tire that way there's no stress on the ball joint at all (that means car weight or tire weight). Reach under car and shake lower control arm up and down. If it moves, it's bad.

Mine does the same!

I'm on 17 aftermarkets.

Did balancing and checked the alignment... improved the shaking, but didn't eliminate it on speeds above 65mph...

I have it since the 17's were installed.... don't remember getting some kind of a hubcentric rim...
Whats the deal with these?! Is it a universal piece? or a brand or something specific?
Where to get?

Thanks!!

BTW, the steering shakes, but only the driver feels it... And I feel like the steering wheel has some "free" travel. Minor, but it is there...
