Default Are spacers unsafe to use?

I seen some rims online that are on clearance deal but they only come in a 40 offset. I would have to get 20 or 25 mm spacers so it would look flush but people are saying spacers are bad and unsafe to use. Can someone who knows for a fact and a lot about spacers chime in and give accurate info about them? Thanks all.

If the spacers are too big you will need extended lug bolts, and i would get hub centric and wheel centric spacers to keep the wheel centered on the hub. A lot of people use spacers there shouldn't be any issue in you running them too.

if they're mostly used for daily driving, it won't give you problems, but if you go too thick, you stress the wheel bearings and can compromise the suspension.

non hubcentric wheel spacers get a bad rap but as long as the correct hardware and proper installation procedures are used, you'll be all right.

If you're planning on going 20 to 25 mm longer, I'd suggest a variation of Tanc's design. Put arp mitsu bolts in the hub, and knock out the spacer lug bolts.
