Anyone have experience with race tires for the Tib? I'm looking for a set for the stock wheels. I want some real R-compound tires. I've recently tried a couple of autocrosses and I feel I'm at a wall as to how well I can do without more traction.

Any input on what size to go for (no luck finding any in stock 195 width)?

Know of any serious race teams using the tib as a platform? I know from time to time you can find used sets with only a couple of heat cycles for cheap. I don't want to spend a ton so this would be the preferable method.

you can't race cheap...but i would go anything more pricewise than the specs of a nitto 555. crappy tire for everyday driving but they had great grip.

BF Goodrich G-force T/A

I've got them on my eclipse and they are insanely sticky. Hook good at the track, corner excellently, and don't ride horribly.

This is the tread pattern: http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires/bfg/b..._kdw2_ci1_l.jpg

we can all say different types of tires guys but lets give compound numbers....

if i remember correctly the treadwear on my nittos was 280. the lower the treadwear the grippier the tire will be.

I heard the new toyo r1's that rhys millen uses on his Genesis you can time the treadlife on them with a stopwatch, roflz.

UrSONvS that's not entirely so . . . a low treadwear number might just mean a sh*tty tire.

depending on what the tire was made for...yes you are correct. in a all season radial that would be a crappy tire.

in a tire designated as a high or maximum performance tire, this totally applies.

I wouldn't know what tire thread it was but M_J once posted his preferred tire was something with a treadwear rating of 200. i'm sure that is the kind you stick your fingernail in and it leaves a mark with also a fingerprint in the tire compound.

don't rely on that number at all. It doesn't have a definite definition. It's like saying I have ten units of awesome while you only have 4. compounds and reviews are important. skidpad ratings are a great indication of grip.

guys in my autocross group mainly run street tires while a few run slicks (not sure if it totally conforms to the rules). you don't need r compound tires for autocross, you'll never even get them warmed up. Just get some good high performance summer tires. I run ecsta's. They are cheap and are great tires.

About a month ago Hankook Venturis RS2's were on clearance at tirerack. Limited to sizes on hand but they had a lot of 15s, 16s, and 17s in 195s to 225s. Check their website for the numbers..

They were originally about 150-200 a pop, down 50-60% in price. An amazing track tire.

Also search on these forums for a wheel/tire calculator. I asked it be made a sticky in the Motorsports/Racing sub section. Not sure if anyone got around to it. You will be able to enter current wheel and tire size and new wheel and tire sizes, and it will answer all your questions.
