Default Possible new wheel dimensions...

Thanks to the assistance of Visionz and Random, who gave me the information I was looking for; I was able to determine the P235/45/R16 rubber/rim combo would yield approximately the same overall diameter as my current stock setup, which is P195/60/R15.
Hyundai's stock wheelies are 5.5" wide according to Hyundai Canada's website; my Motegi's are 7" wide, the only problem may be that a tread of 235 might end up too wide if the offset of the rim {+42} doesn't allow the inner side of the tire to clear the wheel well/suspension. I guess I'll have to wait until spring to see if there's enough room there to allow for full range of motion.

235's are too wide. So are 225's. You MIGHT get away with 225's with stock ride height and a 35 offset, but not with a 42 offset

215's work with stock ride height, and some of the "taller" lowering springs in 42.

Now a friend of mine at work had said that there are wheel spacers available to push the wheel outwards from the car. But you have to replace the existing bolts with longer ones so that they still extend through the rim, and have enough thread remaining for the wheel lugs. Would that be a feasable option?

On my 16x7 rage rims I went with 205/50/16. That size keeps me just about on with the stock size. How wide are your rims??

with 235 tires and 42 offset, you are gonna have to roll the fenders. no even that might not work. you are gonna have to cut the fenders or get wide fender kit or something to get that tire in.

A 5 series V8 uses 235 tires in front.
A 330ci with optional 17" wheels use 245 in the back but still uses 225 in front. BMW is a company known for using unimaginably wide tires and they won't put more than 225 in front. you think the Elantra will accept 235? think again.

My rims are also 16x7. Yeah, its hard for me to imagine the finished product. All I know is how SWEEEET the Elantra would look with a nice wide stance. I find one of Hyundai's biggest draw-bakcs as far as appearance goes is that the body oerhangs the wheels so much. Ideally I want the outside of my tire setup to be flush with the widest part of my Elantra. Do you think 205 or 215's would achieve that?

235s would look sweet, but I think 205s would do you fine too.

I put 195s on my Accent (97) and it looks way better than the 175s or 185s, and it's not that big of an increase.

I know your car is bigger still, and I know what you mean about bringing the wheel/tire out to the edge of the fenders... that does look good. The 195s did that on my car... why don't you check out a wheel shop and see if you can test fit some wheels? The people at a good shop should be able to give you some good advice.

You can see some pics of my rims installed at www.cardomain.com/id/spatch359
Everyone has told me that the new tires and rims give the car a more aggressive stance. Now If I could only find a company with the Eibach Pro kit in stock! smile.gif

Spatch!

16 x 7's with 40mm offset and 205-50-16 wheels would do just fine. 40 is the widest you can go if you want to lower it. you can also get 38mm offset but if you want to lower it you have to roll the fenders. with 38mm, you'll be able to achieve that wide stance look.

Thanks guys.
Spatch, what are the wheel dimensions for your tire setup? And what is the offset for those rims? If I ended up with that look, I'd be more than happy. Just curious to know how close the over-all diameter is compared to the stock version.

The Accent {old car} has P185/60/R14, I put on 205/40/16's, and it definitely was a huge improvement, the car looked WAY better. I guess I should find out what the offset is for the Elantra's stock wheel assembly, maybe the 42 offset of my Motegi's will widen the 'stance' automatically.
