So for those that dont know let me fill you in real quick. I have an 02 LC Accent with rear disc brakes from a 99 Tiburon. I am now nearing completion on a 11" front brake swap using a 99 Elantra knuckle, 02 Accent hub, 04 Tiburon calipers and a 04 Sonata rotor re-drilled to a 4x100 bolt pattern. I have a few more parts to collect but when complete I will have rebuilt and painted calipers, cross drilled/slotted rotors to save weight and they look great, braided brake lines and bearings front and back. Also up front im replacing the tie rod ends, lower ball joint and cv boots on my axles. At some point the master cylinder from an 04 tib will be going in as well.
You all didnt think I was gunna put this on my car did ya?

Filthy lil beasts

First piston came out good with small amounts of air applied until it popped out

Second piston however...Not thinking I gave it full air pressure..."POP"!!!

It was like hitting my finger with hammer, its hella swollen right now
This pic is about 4 minutes after the f*ck up.

Work must continue...the caliper brackets were taken down to bare metal using
a bench mount wire wheel then cleaned. Used black caliper paint on them.

Clean calipers ready for epoxy based primer

Used the wire wheel method and a small wire brush for the spaces that were hard to get

Masked off and fresh primer, 2 coats

Time to get the color on

This interesting item I found at the automotive paint store for $5
You mix your paint and reducer and your ready to paint like a rattle can.

Factory matched paint, 3 coats

3 coats of clear

Masking tape removed

Lets put it all together

This set up is still at the 4x114 stage

My color scheme was inspired by this Tiburon SE caliper. When I get my
hands on a set I will do them in blue with the raised lettering in black

Update, got a few things wrapped up today. Now all Im waiting on is the caliper rebuild kit for the fronts, should have it on monday. I also need to order some brake lines but I have nearly everything else I was hunting for. The 99 Elantra knuckles are painted black with caliper paint and the new bearings have been pressed in. I replaced both CV boots on my 98 Elantra right hand axle and also painted that sucker black. I put the stock axle in back in june cuz of shot boots, but that axle is sketchy since it does not lock into my beta tranny. Rear caliper rebuild kit is in and I also have new lower ball joints to go in and new tie rod ends. Pads are waiting to be abused against some new rotors re drilled to 4x100. I am waiting on cross drilled/slotted rotors until I find someone that deals with blanks so I can have the hub and bolt pattern matched to my car. Ive basically gotten as far as I care to go until I get my front caliper kit. Im off to go brush in some resin now that I have recieved the proper hardner... what a mess that was but ill save the b*tchin for another day.
Rear painted calipers, next time you see them the wheel well will be nice and clean, no rust.

Collection of freshly painted and new parts, all waiting on some simple rubber parts!!
