QUOTE (gotspeed13)
You will need the hubs, spindles, calipers, and also the rotors i think. Calipers for sure though.

I did the swap on my 98 about 2 yrs ago from a 2001 and its pretty much a simple direct fit swap. I paid like $40.00 each at wreaking yard.

As gotspeed stated you need the following:

1] Spindle [hub] Assembly.

2] Rotors.

Calipers are the same so you don't need to buy replacements.

Once your are done with the swap make sure you go an get it an alignment.

Really!?!? No calipers. It was because of that I didn't do the swap. Okay I'm going to do it now. I need a new bearing on the pass. side so Might as well get in there and do it myself.

I think you will need the calipers. That's what I was told and the brake pads have different part numbers so they are different. Not 100% on the interchangeability.

I got the spindle/hub assembly from a 2001/RD2 and did not need to swap-out my RD1 calipers. The part number might have changed based on an insignificant update, which does not effect the compatibility of the RD2 HUBS with RD1 calipers.

Now do I have to do a noncaptive rotor swap to put on aftermarket wheels or will it work with captive rotors. and if I don't have to swap is there anything special I need to do for my captive's to work with aftermarket wheels? Other than Hub centric rings and tuner/spline drive lug nuts.

If you don't do the swap, you will have to get wheels that are compatible with captives rotors. They will have a groove on the hub side of the wheel that will clear the captive bolts. Your choices will be quite limited. If you do the swap, you will be able to use any wheel that will fit 2nd gen Tibs, which will be a lot more.

blu_drgn,

You do not have to upgrade to a non-cap rotor set-up if you decided on a set of aftermarket wheels that have "pockets" in the rear seat, which accommodate the captive set-up protrusions.

In a way this can suck, cause if you find a set of wheels you really like and they are not captive rotor friendly then you have to keep searching....I think most of Konig's wheels are captive rotor friendly.

Just make sure you speak with a knowledgeable person at the wheel shop and ask if the wheels of interest are captive rotor friendly.

I got my Konigs from: www.whalentires.com

They have decent prices, way back when when I got my wheels they offered great service.

BTW, for all of you that don't have a captive rotor set-up don't worry about asking the ?: Will captive rotor designed wheels fit my ride? Yes, they will, only peeps that need to ask the ? are those w/the captive set-up.

OK, I feel like an idiot. and I know I'm beating a dead horse, But correct me if I'm wrong, but ONLY the front rotors on RD1 Tibs have captive rotors, right?

So if I swapped the non-captive rotors from my wifes 2000 tib to my 98 tib the only things I need to change-over/replace are the:

1) Rotors
2) Hub (spindle) assy
3) NEW brake pads
4) Alignment

Correct?

Just making sure cause I plan on doing this over christmas break.
