I'm resurrecting this thread. I have the same problem, and it has to be the rear calipers. I screwed up the original rear calipers trying to ebrake drift for a bit, and also using a c-clamp to push in the pistons to change the pads instead of using the twisty box thing to screw the piston back in. Well I got 2 remans at advanced auto parts and it seems that they weren't remanufactured that well. I spent two hours with a vacumm bleder on the rear calipers today and no matter how much i sucked on the bleeder fitting after opening it, i would always get air out of it mixed with fluid. The fluid level was always checked in the resivior to make sure it hadn't got too low. The crazy thing is that the lines never leak when you press on the brake pedal, so IDK where the leak is. it must be interal and just doesn't like vacuum or something.

I can also tell that it's the rear calipers being loose as if you just put the car in gear and release the ebrake, try to reach into your rims and move the calipers side to side to check for play. The front ones have no play and are nice and snug. The rear ones that I replaced have some slack in them with the ebrake down. Also they chatter whenever you hit a bump. I guess it's time for a warranty replacement on them and tgry again.

When I first did my rear brakes, I went to Parts Source (Canadian version or AutoZone/Advanced auto), and those guys told me that I could compress my rear caliper pistons with the same tool they had sold me for compressing my front ones. I'm glad I knew that they were wrong, otherwise I might've done the same thing too.

As for the bubbles mixed with the fluid, try pressing firmly as far down as you can, on your brake pedal, and have someone see if there are any leaks in any of the 4 calipers (and near it). Or you can check this after you've held the pedal down for like 10 seconds (this way you can look at any fluid accumulation). But if there are any leaks, the pedal will seem mushy and drop to the floor (even if eventually, over the span of a few secs). Also, as you were bleeding one caliper, did you have the bleeder on the other caliper fully tightened?

The calipers shouldn't be able to show any play if they are tightened properly. How about the brake pads, are they showing any play? If so, it could be a problem with the piston not extending properly.

I actually tried the pedal leak test when i was bleeding them and they're solid, no leaks anywhere. Red zman and I might have figured out the problem. I don't have the shims that are supposed to be on the rear brake pads and that might be what is causing the play, so he's hitting up a junkyard for me and mailing them out to see if that fixes the problem.

I have a wierd noise comming from my tranny when i go in revers. It's more like a louder noise than the normal one at first like the first 2 to 3 feet when i start letting go of the clutch. It started doing this around maybe my 60k or 70k miles on the beta II tranny.

I wounder what's wrong with it. Also my second gear synchro went out on this tranny also, this is sad... 02.gif

Well my guess would be if your 2nd gear synchro went out and now your trans is making odd sounds in reverse, your trans is most likely on it's way out. Sorry to burst your bubble.

yeah, that would make the brake pad feel loose. But you said that you felt that the caliper felt loose (you probably meant the pad)

Did you try changing your transmission fluid to redline? It's worth a try.
