Hey!

Well, I had my KYB "Excel-G" (same as the US "GR-2", just our Aussie nomenclature wink1.gif ) struts installed today & the car now feels like a boat. Worse even... I'd go as far as to say my car now handles like a barge!

To be fair, I've only driven on them for around 20 minutes today & that was at a leisurely pace as I also fitted my new slotted front rotors & new pads.

Maybe I had just gotten too used to the crashy ride resulting from rooted shocks but these feel "bouncy", if that makes sense?

I'm guessing they just need to settle a bit. If it is that these need to settle, how long does it normally take?


BTW, the car was already on 35mm Pedders lowering springs... They've been on for a while now.

I think shocks do not need to settle down.

Although when I installed mine they were a bit stiffer than now.

What color are your shocks? Silver? Gold?

2-3 Weeks and then go get an alignment
My Eibachs felt GREAT 10 minutes after we installed it! smile.gif

Hey OZ, shocks DO NOT need to settle, maybe springs do a lilttle, but not shocks.
The only thing I can think of in your case is:
Shocks have been uncompressed in a horizontal position to long (it could cause "aeration" or air bubbles in the oil) and they need use to get rid of that,
or
you have installed the wrong part number in your car... or they are defective.

When I installed a brand new set of Eibach springs with OEM (also brand new) shocks on my Elantra, it felt awfully bouncy, and the minute I drove it with the GR-2 it was 100% OK and cotrolled.

Check your alignment, that you have conected the sway bar linkls properly (or even conected them), and that the part is the correct part for you r car.

^ I was prolly being a bit harsh... They felt much better this morning after a decent 1.5hr drive. I don't think there is anything wrong with them. I'll check that everything is hooked up to where it should be though as I didn't do the install... Too lazy & not enough space in my garage.

My alignment has felt a bit off lately, regardless of how well it's done, due to a badly unevenly worn front right tire that was caused by a bad alignment a little while back. This problem will be fixed as soon as the rims I want are back in stock, which will be soon hopefully.

These KYB struts are black & the part numbers are here. I was going to get ebay GR-2 shocks from the States but needed these right away. I was told that these are the same as GR-2s in design & construction.

if they make your car feel like a sports coupe should, and they keep your vehical roll down to a minimum.... then yeah, they're gr2s. I'm lovin' mine fing02.gif

if you put it on jack stands or on a lift, could you take pix for me when you inspect the install? I just want pix of a vehical on jack stands for the "jack up your vehical thread"

if you take your wheels off and actually remove and install, do a diy. i meant to do one last time but i never did.

kyb gr2 was installed and showed an incredible amount of improvement.

Now, when I drive through rough roads and manholes.
Its very smooth you could almost not feel the road vibrations.

Took it to the local Tyrepower Store.
installation was about 1 1/2 hours and wheel alignment on four wheels.

Yeah, I think it just felt funny intially as I'd gotten used to a very harsh ride with my old shocks. When I compress the old shocks (I still have them in the garage) they just stay compressed... One of the fronts slowly decompresses itself but only very, very slowly. The others are all completely shot.

The car feels pretty good now, especially through turns & chicanes at decent speeds. At low speeds it feels ok but the faster I go the better it seems to handle. Much less roll now it seems fing02.gif

Good to hear it's all right now.
The part numbers correspond with the same struts as the GR-2, GR-2 is a commercial name for the US only; as long as they are gas shocks, they should be the same.
Also, these shocks have special valves to prevent "aeration"; so, if there were air bubbles on the oil part, with a couple of ups and downs (which you get with some minutes of driving) they get rid of the bubbles.
