Can anyone tell me what the proper torque specs should be our lug nuts? I think the last time I took my car to the mechanic they used an imact driver and put them on too tight. I'm gonna buy my own torque wrench this week and make sure they are torqued to spec. Thanks guys.

 

I torque mine in steps, hand-tight to mount the wheel, then all around at 30lbs, then again at 70lbs, then again to double-check at 70. Never, EVER let someone tighten your lugnuts with an impact gun that does not have a current calibration label. They can warp your brake rotors ($$$) or as happened to my dad they can destroy the studs, which is a pain to fix.

The torque specification is listed there as 65-80lb.ft. Note that this is approximately the torque you get when an average person leans pretty hard on the stubby little lug nut wrench that comes with the car.

I was a little shocked the first time I put them on with a torque wrench at just how little 75lbs really is..

 

Si. 38lbs on a 24" wrench isn't hard to do. That's one reason why the stock lug wrenches are itty bitty.
