Does anyone know of or have a list of some of the lightest 17" rims avaliable? Eventually I want to upgrade to something better than the stock rims, and while I am trying to find something that looks really good, I also want to avoid loosing preformance over it. I love the look of the bigger rims..but loosing speed due to extra weight kinda stinks. Was wondering if anyone could help me out with this smile.gif

u can buy carbon fiber rims...

 

Volk TE-37's are the best quality/weight/durability, but they will run you about $400 to $500 a wheel.

SSR makes a similar wheel called the "SSR Type C" but it is not available in the USA at this time. ($350 to $400 a wheel)

Fiske makes killer lightweight/durable wheels, but none in 4 lug.

The Budget alternative is the Enki RP01. Almost as light as a Volk...but only about $125 a wheel. Not too sure about their durability/quality though (eneki are known to be decent rims, so I would give them the quality, but I dunno about the durability).

SSR makes a light weight one called the SSR Competition, it runs 300-400, slightly less than the TE37s

Racing Heart has a few

ALT has the light speed, but i think the biggest is 16, maybe 17

Axxis just came out with a pretty light one

racing hart has the cp-035...they have 17's and are about 13.5 or 14.5 lbs. a peice...konig also makes a lookalike that is called the subzero that is a lot cheaper in price.

 

So what is the weight of the stock rims?

 

Stock alloys are 28 LBS each if I remember right. That does not include the tire, just the wheel.

I've got a line on some old wheel/tire combo's, so I should have 100% accurate numbers on this within 2 weeks.

 

Cool. So am I to assume correctly if the aftermarket wheels are under 28 lbs, no matter what the size, that it won't cause a decrease in power? I really like the look of 17's but I DO NOT want to hurt the performance of my car for a cool look.

Wheel weight is a factor, yes. However, the distribution of that weight more important.

The farther out from the center of the wheel the weight is, the WORSE it is. Thus 17" wheels are worse than 15" wheels of the same weight assuming equal weight distribution for both wheels.

Then add in the heavier Tyre on the 17" wheel, and you make the problem even worse, as the Tyre is farther out than the edge of the rim.

In general...smaller is better, lighter is better.

My 17" Quautum-Tec S-10z w/Yoko'A520z weigh the same as stockers. 45lbs.
