Default Idle drop when bkaking???

Today, when I was parking my car, I noticed:
engine works at idle (800 RPM), car is not moving, when I press hard brake peddle idle drops to 600 RPM and stays 600 during I press the peddle.

Is it ok?

When you release it does it come back to 800 rpm ?

Idle rpm can drop sometimes a bit when the Dynamo decides to draw some power, things like lights, a/c and seat heaters cause the same thing.
When braking is new to me but I can imagine that the brake distributor needs more power to put more pressure on the brakelines. (there's a pressure pump between the pedal and the brakes, without it you'd really have to slam the brake pedal to even slow down a bit).
When you slightly press it, does it drop as well ?

Don't sound real serious, but then again I'm not a H. technician and I'm not for sure laugh.gif:

^^ Agreed. Isn't an 800 idle a little low for our cars. I think mine usually idles around 950-1000RPM. Was actually going to bump it up a little bit.

Nope 800 rpm is default (for my RD2 atleast, don't know for other types/brands).

Why up the idle speed ? 800 rpm is fine with me, like the nice low rpm. Mine never stalled, not even when switching on all the electrical stuff at once.

I would leave the idle rpm as it is unless you are having trouble with stalling or rpm dropping.

Our tibs use a vacuume assist braking system. Meaning that the big canister between the brake pedal and the mastercylinder is powered off of Engine Vacuume. There is a large diameter line between the booster and the intake with a check valve to keep neutral or positive displacement air from entering the Canister.

Because of this, when you apply your brakes you are actually creating a vacuume leak which can drop the idle some. Why your car idles so low, I am unsure about. I do know that our tachs can be a little off, so as long as the engine sounds alright and is not vibrating (which it will do at too low an idle) I would not worry too much about it.

When engine is warm - idle is around 800 RPM. Works ok. (BTW WebTech says that idle speed should be 800 +/- 100 RPM)

When I press very hard peddal (more than 3 sec) it drops to 600-700 RPM and start to vibrate a bit. But as soon as I release peddal it works 800 RPM.

My car never stalls... it will shudder every once in a while when it dips down to 800ish on its own when a few accessories decides to rob some some power. When my car is completely cold it'll idle around 1400RPM on its own.

I actually tried it out myself at the stoplight today for ya. Pushed down the brakes a few times and the idle didn't change.

I was playing with mine yesterday while waiting for my girlfriend to come out of the store. With nothing on, the car idles with the tach needle JUST sitting at the bottom of the "1" on the tach. I am assuming this is about 900rpms.

If I hit the brakes, it will momentarily dip slightly, about a needle width, and then rise up again. Same thing if I turn on the lights. If I do both together, it will take slightly longer to recover, but never takes more than a second or so.

when you load the engine the rpm will drop a little in idle. It will then after a sec. of 3 return to normal if you keep the load equal.

When the idle drops under 800 rpm it'll bug a little bit, make a dark/low noise.

No big deal. Atleast not if it's not stalling.

I'd try to stall it by activating all the sh*t together with 2 ppl, didn't work 02.gif

When you disconnect your batterij and the ECU is recalibrating my idle would drop to 500 rpm everytime I pressed the clutch. Must be a emergency program or something.

If that's hard to read, click on the HMA service link above and click on the image.
Check out the Tach Tollerances.
TACHOMETER
(RPM) Tolerance
1000 ±100
2000 ±125
3000 ±150
4000 ±150
5000 ±150
6000 ±180
7000 ±210

I found it before but can't find it now.

Anyways, HMAservice says that the Idle RPM is supposed to be from 800 to 950 or so.
