Alright, I completed the 5speed swap and my brake lights don't work. My cruise control also doesn't work. I'm convinced it's a wiring issue.

My guess, possibly bad "Stop Lamp Switch"

Can somebody with a manual transmission check their brake pedal for me, and look at the plugs. Can you tell me what wires match up to what color wires?

I believe the wires are:
Red
Brown
Green
Green with white stripe

My plug currently doesn't match color to color (brown doesn't seem to match with brown, red with red, etc.)

Can somebody just look under their dash and tell me which wires appear to be matching up?

Example:
Brown on WIRING plug lines up with green w/white on BRAKE PEDAL plug
Red on WIRING plug lines up with BROWN on BRAKE PEDAL plug

where the BRAKE PEDAL plug is the one connected to the brake pedal ( duh.gif )

 

i'll check on my car tomorrow. my reverse aren't working, but all three brake are.

 

I couldn't get myself under there with my dad's truck parked next to my car so I shoved my camera under there and took pictures. These are the best I could get.

It doesn't look like they match up directly but maybe someone else can answer your question directly though.

 

The electrical connector only goes one way so I'm sure that the wires are right.

I thought the same thing hamhead, but I wanted to at least try. Since the wiring side was from an automatic, and the brake pedal from a manual, I didn't know if there may be something backwards.

And HKC... I can fix that problem for you.

Automatic Tranny - there is a circular plug on the top of the tranny.
Manual Tranny - there is an oval plug with two prongs on the top of the tranny.

If you still have access to the donor car, you need the plug that goes into that OVAL plug. Find the two wires that have a circular plug just dangling in your engine bay (near fuse box) not connected to anything. Replace the plug, and plug it in to the top of your tranny.

I think that's the problem. It's listed in the DIY... I remember messing with it

 

I think the Back up lamp switch it self is bad. I am looking in my shop books and that what it comes up with. Or you got a bad ground some where. Check fuse No.9 its in that system.

You dont have tail lights at all right?
It could be a wire on you Steering Wheel. M26-3 Wire 1 .3 GY. Thats the control to turn it on off.

 

I think the problem with your cruise is going to be the clutch switch. Did you install one when you did the swap? Is it pushed in when the clutch is up, and open when you push the clutch down?

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION

The cruise control system uses mechanical and electrical devices to maintain vehicle speed at a driver selected setting. The cruise control module receives signals from the cruise control main switch, the stop lamp switch, the cruise control switch, transaxle range switch (A/T), Over driver switch, cruise clutch pedal position switch(M/T) and the vehicle speed sensor. The cruise control module provides signals to the cruise control actuator and the transaxle control module(A/T).



With cruise engaged, the cruise control module sends a signal to the transaxle control module that prevents the transaxle from continuously downshifting and upshifting to maintain the set vehicle speed when going up a long grade or hill. The cruise control module incorporates a self diagnostic feature.

 

I don't think clutch switch is in. Don't have to push clutch in to start car. I think I purposely didn't install it so I could use remote starter. Or... it could be in there and just not touching anything (so possibly either always pressed or always depressed). It's been a couple months, I can't remember. I didn't even install the pedals sad.gif wish I had...

Taillights work... brake lights don't. 3rd brake light in spoiler doesn't work.

Checked all fuses, replaced all (including No. 3 and No. 9)

I think brake lights are more likely to be a wiring problem than switch, but I may replace switch as soon as I figure out what/where it is. Can I replace manual brake pedal switch with automatic?

And the Cruise Control and Brake lights seem to be connected in every way I can find. Fixing one will fix the other.

Mine did the same thing mang and the switch was dead. I highly doubt your wiring got messed up from the switch back to the lights. The switch sits on your brake pedal, only thing there.
