According to Hyundai's parts online, a GT caliper with pads is $672, and a Sonata rotor is $175. And that is for ONE of each. So how is this better than a big brake kit?

you can possibly send them away somewhere to get them drilled/slotted. and then have the GK calipers painted.
great idea! big brake kits also some with performance brake hoses.

i paid $540 at the dealer for all of the parts I listed on the first post of this thread.
this is NEW equipment... factory quality stuff...
also, to answer the question of brake pedal feel.. you will notice an incredible difference in braking performance.... just hit the brakes hard and you will see who different it feels...
also, the brake caliper bracket is the same for all of the elantras, tibs and accents.... so i figure it should fit all rd tibs with no problem.

What about rears?
What I would do guys is if you wanna do this and it DOES work...
1. Buy a set of Front ABS Slotted/Drilled rotors on ebay for $150 or whatever they are. You can get them for any car. Just tell them a Sonata with ABS, 2004. Tada!
2. Email David at kspec.com and see how much for the OEM calipers. Should be CHEAP! Proly like 100 each shipped.
3. Then buy some pads on Ebay.
For me, if I do this when I get all the answers, I'll just get some GK calipers off of a junkyard.

but does the sonata come with rear discs? Like I have mentioned before though... bigger rear discs do not do much. 60% or more braking is done by the fronts alone. This is why your high performance cars like Porsche and the Like have HUGE front brakes and normal sized rears.

i'm using gt v6 tiburon calipers... but the 2004 sonata with abs rotors are the same size as the tib rotors but they are 4 lug pattern that directly bolt onto the j1, j2, rd, xd1, xd2, and even the accent knuckles ! smile.gif hehehe
just be sure to have at least 15 inch rims to clear them.
quick question.. is this just a front swap, if the question is yes. What about the rears? You know anything? I want to swap my rear drums to rotors on my J1.

i can help a bit.
tools needed.
socket wrench
sockets: 12mm to remove brakeline from caliper. 17mm to remove the caliper assembly from the knuckle.
if you change out the brake lines, then you will need the 12mm for a mounting bracket. also, a 10mm to remove the other end of the brakeline.
something to catch brake fluid.
that should be it. what exactly are the crush washers for?

swapping the rears to disks would require much more parts and labor.. since the stock drum knuckles are not interchangeable with the rear disks...
also, you will have some issues with the master cylinder flow volume.. .it may not have enough volume to efficiently pump the larger sized calipers than the stock pistons on the rear drums...
I only did a front swap.. thats enough for my current needs... smile.gif
