Default Do you buy knock off rims?

I found this site

http://www.stopbuyingrotas.com/index.html

And was wondering how many people buy rims that are knock offs? I know theres always been a big debate about buying bodykits that are knock offs, but do people feel the same way about rims too? dunno.gif

With body kits, there's a lot of R&D, fitment issues, and quality to consider.

With wheels, I know you can have quality issues on knock-offs, but really, how much R&D is there? it's all in design and weight.

Yes, I bought knock-off wheels for the Tib. I see no reason to spend $2,500+ for new wheels unless I have weight concerns. But, seeing as I bought an automatic GC, the track isn't a high priority right now. I've considered getting a good set for the GC, since it's staggered, but spending $3,000 on rims/tires when I was able to find $500 sets used for the Tib just... doesn't make sense.

I take a Microsoft approach with wheel companies. I think they're making way too much on markup to justify their "R&D" costs.

i don't really care... i mean my next rims are for sure going to be xxr 522's, and i've been told by numerous people they are knock off rims... but i don't care. if they look good and you're happy with them, what else matters? sure they are a little more heavy and don't have the same strength but if you are someone that is only going for looks that shouldn't matter to you

On my other tib I didnt buy knock-offs only because I was able to get a get price on them, for the new tib I will buy a set that I like the look of, whether they're knock-offs or not.

I agree with the people who said for looks. I bought a $240 set for my Tib and they looked pretty sweet IMO.

So many wheels look similar that most of the time you would be hard pressed to even know if your design was a knockoff.

I buy wheels based on individual merit, I don't care about the design's origination, etc. I do try to buy quality light wheels that look good that aren't likely to break a spoke for no reason.
