Alright guys, as usual, I decided to take apart something in the middle of the week all the while knowing that nothing ever goes smooth the first time and that I need to car tomorrow.... So what I did was decided to do a drilled/slotted rotor swap on all 4s. Naturally I attempted the front 2 and decided to go with the drivers side first... not that it matters which side it is but it does matter that its the front. Evidently we have something called a captive hub assembly, I know this b/c Redz did a DIY on the captive to non captive swap. Unfortunatly, I need a noncaptive hub and in the DIY Redz did, it only said get one at the junkyard. So obviously my question is, what car do i get it off of? 1998 elantra? I am going to assume, correct me if im wrong, that all imports have different hub assemblies. If anyone can help me id really appreciate as always. If nobody can well... F***!

Also, anyone know how much wheel bearings are?--if i cant find a noncaptive hub, then ill have to have my current rotor pressed off and I then need a new wheel bearing because mine has gone to shit laugh.gif.

 

if urs is a 2001 then it should be a non captive rotor.

 

O? well then how do I get the rotor off of the hub? I had the entire assembly out and off of the axel/lower controlarm/strut and I dont see how the rotor comes off of the hub

 

not too sure. lets hope someone hear can shine some light.

 

the rotor should slide off right when you take off the caliper. if there are two small screws holding it down just them out and it should come right out. if not then it might be stuck on there a little tight, you can give it a gentle tap or screw in a bolt into the other holes to push it out.

He's got CAPTIVE HUBS. The rotor is attached to the hub by those 4 big ass bolts.

GO get the hubs mang. All you need to look for is for hubs off of a disk brake Tib or Elantra, 1999 and up. That will guarantee you won't get captive hubs.

No idea. All I know is he's posted in a few different threads about the captive swap.

 

His profile says he has a 2001 Tib. I think he is confused and doesn't realize that the earlier Tibs have the captive rotors and his doesn't. Likely what he is really trying to do is just install new drilled/slotted rotors.

 

well i posted above assuming his profile was correct..
so KAWZ, if you have a 2001 tib then you DO NOT have a captive setup if you have a 97-98 then you do!
