Are the Elantra brake calipers the same off of the same (generation) tiburon? No tibs in my area car yards, but there are a few Elantras. Thanks!

 

At least for captive setups between 97~99 the brakes were exactly the same.
I would think the calipers are the same no matter captive or non captive.

 

i just did the brakes on my tib (97, captive) and my friend's 03 XD elantra on the same day. They physically look identical as far as I could tell. the clips that hold the pads and everything. But for some reason, the part numbers for the brake pads were different. try looking on any online retailers websites, the pads are not the same #s. I usually get my pads and small stuff from http://www.autopartsauthority.com/ cause they are in my region. if you search EBC pads on there, you'll see what I mean. both the RD1 captive and RD2 non captive use the same pads. But the Elantra uses other pads.

When I did my captive to non-captive swap, I got used wheel-hub assemblies from a J2 Lantra (your Elantra). They came with calipers too. I ended up using the better pads from my old calipers on the Lantra calipers. Never had any issues right up until I swapped the rotors for slotted ones.

I reckon the calipers are exactly the same.

 

When I ordered EBC 'Green stuff' pads for my Tib, I got shipped a set for an Elantra. I had no drama's fitting them, as far as I know Tib's and Elantra's share the same braking components.

 

well, I took apart the caliper tonight, and found that it was actually the pin that seized up. Took out the clip that held the pin, soaked it in Deep Creep for a couple hours. Still nothing. Took it to a huge vice and a hammer, and got that little facker to come apart. I think I bent up the clip and the pin in the process, so I'm off to check out that Elantra tomorrow.

Advance Auto Parts also said that the parts are the same between the two cars... so hopefully that part is there for me!
