Brake Pad Question

Hey guys just been replacing my brake pads and I noticed a spring like pin joining the two pads what is the point and would it matter if I left it off....??

Front or rear brakes? Pads or shoes? If you are doing Pads the only thing that i can think of thats anything like a spring is the low brake pad warning tab, it has some flex. Could you look up a picture online or post one of what you are looking at?

He's talking about the spring clip they include with Brake Hardware Kits for front discs. It's not really necessary. Most of the time they are there to keep pads from chattering and to aid in bringing farther from the rotors. I haven't had them since I bought my car over a year ago, and I have no issues at all.
