Whats the best deal on lowering springs? I want something that will last awhile, and gives good performance.

i have sprint lowering springs got them off ebay for 100 i've had them for about 3 months now and no problems

I can't agree more.
I've seen other guys (a 98 with H&R's, 99 with Intrax as well as a 2001 with intrax) with other springs,... and nothing compares to my riding comfort (Riding Delight as it were,.. hehe) and performace from my Eibach Pro Kit springs, but then again I have the entire kit, Pro Kit Struts with the Sway bars.

You get what you pay for dude.
Handling was a priority for me, so I splurged!

Really, I was looking at the Intrax, but you guys are saying they're not worth it? The Tiburon rides hard enough, so anything that makes the ride worse would probably be intolerable.

Hi, I'll just jump right in with both feet on my first post. Hope that doesn't offend anyone.

"Anything that makes the ride worse would probably be intolerable"....springs are only half the equation and dampers make more difference when it comes to ride quality than springs, especially in lowering situations.


Speaking as an autocrosser, the handling of the 00-01 tiburons is VERY soft. The car transitions slowly (note I didn't say poorly) and takes quite a bit of skill to master. Under maximum braking, I have fully compressed the front springs (to the point of them binding) on many occassions and the rear springs are simply too soft and cause significant understeer in most cornering situations (turn in and steady state) making it difficult to carry speed. The upside is that the car responds very well to left foot braking and will rotate into controllable oversteer nicely. This is not a maneuver I would recommend on the street. Interesting to me (or rather for me), the car handles much better at 70 MPH than at 40. Unfortunatley for me, autocross doesn't occur at 70.

I consider the springs and dampers meerly adequate for street driving/handling. The stock springs are linear which is a step in the right direction but the damping is poor to meerly adequate(thus the rough ride). If lowering and improved cornering performance is what your after, you should consider replacing the struts as well. Simply replacing the struts (for example, with Koni Yellows) shows improved street ride quality and performance handling. At least according to a trusted friend of mine with a 97 Tib.

Eibach springs lower about 30-35 mm (1.2-1.5") While they are not the lowest, they are probably the best quality springs on the market for 2gen tibs. If you lower the car more than 1.5" you will have to replace your struts as well (or you'll be doing it within 3-6 months anyway when the stock ones are shot).

Couldn't put it any better.

That's why I didn't skimp, got the entire system, springs, struts and even swaybars to stiffen it up. And I LOVE how the Tib handles now!
I REALLY hated the OEM understeer, haven't had a time to AutoX it since the install, since they've all been on Tuesday nights, but there is a Sunday event coming up in a few weeks.

Hopefully I won't be 3 wheeling it like I was last year:

I would go with Eibach Ground Control coil overs. If you plan on getting a body kit, having lowering springs may come back to bite you in the ass. Had I gotten lowering springs before my body kit, I wouldn't have been able to get out of my driveway.
