Anyone Ever Run A 225/40/17?
#1
ok, ive searched, and read all the posts on tire sizes, and well, ive had 205/40/17 since 01 and im in need of replacing the two passenger side's, ive never been happy with the skinny 205's, but at the time, everyone was saying there the safest bet, (back when sharkracing was the only forum we had)well after 4 years, ive never bottomed out, and im a really agressive driver.
well ive allways liked the 245's on my probe, and id like to run a 225/40 as my next set up on the tibby, question being this.... will i rub? im on stock suspension, with no plan to upgrade it. i know id have to change how i drive, but even if it did rub, i wouldnt care to much.
basically im just wondering if anyone has tried it before?

Sorry I can't help you...Yet!
I'm looking to get 17in x 7in rims with 225/35 tyres fairly soon. I have a 35mm drop.
I'm thinking your 225/40-17 should be OK. Especially if you're still on stock suspension.
There's a guy that lives in my area with 18's with 225/30 rubber on his RD Coupe & he reckons it's fine. He's got a 45mm drop but he did roll the guards.

1st of all 225/40 will make your speedometer be off by a lot. 2nd, it will slow you down by the extra weight and extra diameter that you will have to spin.
I think you will be rubbing against the strut, with 215s I barely have any clearance between the strut and the tire. Wheel spacers might help in this situation though.

I have 215/45/17 and I rubbed against the fender when I first got them... when going up steep inclines while turning, or if I hit a dip/bump while turning, it rubbed against the fender lip. I have 17x7.5 wheels. 225 might be pushing it... too close to the strut
I removed the wheel well lining so I can't help you there.

If stock size is 205/50 R15
and you will use 225/40 R17 then:
speedo---actual speed
...30............31.3
...60............62.6
..100..........104.4
I use 205/50 R16 size and outer diameter is same as 225/40 R17, no problems with speedo (numbers above) you just know that you need to subtract 4%.
