would i be able to use a 205/45/17" tire on my 2000 tib and be able to lower the car so there is no wheel gap, without a trouble? Because i dont want to loose my front bumber so i figures a 45 series would bring it up the front a little when lowered compared to the 40 series tire

Your speedo is going to be off too.. I have sixteens in that size.. 205/45/16... they almost exactly the same size as stock.. you would wind up with a speedo that ran slow.. and possibly a slower car too because of the change in gearing.

don't listen to the old man in the post above me. Your speedo won't be off enough to notice. Maybe 1 MPH off @ 60MPH.

I have 215/40/17 I believe... cant remember, haven't had my car in almost a month but then again, im not lowered at all.

I'll get you the website to calculate the change in your speedometer. I don't have it handy at the moment (I'm at work)

This one's better to calcuate tire size:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

But 215/40/17's will work too, but 45's are too "thick"
Try it if you don't trust me.
