our stock tires are 195 55 15. doesnt really affect the calculations much though.

yah 195/55/15 is the stockie size. 205/40/17 or 215/40/17 should work.

anyone know if there would be any problems with the second one? or should we just stick with the smaller size?

yeah 205/40r17's
OEM size overall diameter is 595mm (195/55/r15)
When you go 17's diameter is 596mm (205/40r17)

So no worries

One thing that I've noticed on cars that have stock springs with 17's, is that they tend to look raised a bit even though they're not. It would be a good idea to lower it, it will look a lot better that way.
