16" vs. 17" Rims

Everything aside (price, weight, etc...), what is your opionion on rims for our cars?

 

considering look alone, 17's all the way.

they show off drilled/slotted rotors better and with 205 or 215/40/17 rubbers they look perfect in the wheel well (when lowered of course).

 

Do a search my man, we've talked about this more times than short ram vs. CAI.

 

Yep, this topic has been discussed many times. 17's are better for show and 16's better for performance.

 

Well, everything aside (price, weight, etc...), my opinion is that the 17" rim is larger than the 16" rim by 1" or 25.4mm nana.gif

From one newb to another, I don't mind giving you my opinion.
I went from the stock 14's to 17x7 rims w/ 205/40-17 tires.

I'm not sure if you're up on 'Plus Sizing', but to keep the speedo accurate and not overwork your brakes, you want to keep the diameter of your tire the same as stock - in my case around 23" tall. This also maintains the stock ride height and keeps you from looking like a lifted 4x4.

But, those 40-series tires are a HARSH ride. Going from the stock tires, the rough ride was immediately noticable. I feel every pebble, every crack, every squirrel I roll over. A 1" thick tree branch hits like a speed bump! But I was more than willing to sacrifice ride quality for the look of the 17's. On the plus side, the car handles much better with the wider/stiffer tires, not to mention the aforementioned look that I wanted to achieve.

I've never rolled 16's on this car, but I would think - with a taller sidewall - the ride would be more comfortable. So it basically comes down to how YOU want to roll. If you're into it for the looks, like Patreezy aid, then go with the 17's, but if you want a nicer ride then the 16's are a better choice.

This is probably a newb question, and has been asked before, but lets say i buy 17" rims and i get the tires that fit the rims, will they affect my odometer and what is plus sizing?
