Vehicle: 1997 Hyundai Fx Coupe
Missed this thread completely!
Let me reminisce a little...
I was 17 when I got my first car... The summer 1997. It was a silver '83 Holden VH Commodore. It was the coolest (or so I thought at the time!). It had a 3.0L motor in it. Quite boxy in shape. Old school chrome detailing here & there. Even had a white vinyl roof! Like old, old cars. Very little rust! rolleyes.gif Nice blue velour interior trim. Had a nice big steering wheel in it... like the ones in buses. I think the dash was cream in colour. My surfboard would fit in it with the rear seats down. It was also free as my dad bought it real cheap off a mate of his... Free is always good!! It lasted nearly a year before the front axle damage (caused by yours truly, goofing around late one night at Bondi Beach... Peer pressure's a b****!) made the car too unsafe to drive...
So it was with a heavy heart that I picked out my next car laugh.gif:, at a used car lot this time... A "Phoenix Red" (kinda metallic red/burgundy) '89 Holden VN Commodore S Pak 3.8L V6. This one was a little sportier. I had it lowered 2 inches. Extractors (Headers). A "Hot-dog" muffler fitted to a custom exhaust system. Nice shiney rims & a leather wrapped "sports" steering wheel... Aaaah!
That car was awesome... Not too powerful but it still held it's own. Would've had around only 200 to 210hp at the crank... but mountains of torque for what it was!
The love affair lasted 4 years this time but ended rather abruptly, as that car was stolen 02.gif. It was stripped & burnt-out when the cops found it the next day. I was absolutely devastated!! A good thing that came from it though is that I went off the Commodores & bought (of all things) a Hyundai! An FX Coupe to be precise...

First car for me was an 87 firebird. It didn't last long because I was a lot younger than I am now and was more afraid of "the law" than anything. It had expired registration, expired safety inspection, and had a lot wrong with it really. I picked it up from a friend who was having some money problems for cheap (he also couldn't take it with him where he was moving to). After about six months, I unloaded it on one of my supervisors who fixed it up real nice and made some money off of it. I'd always see it driving around the area too, and one day I got a snapshot of it next to my elantra.

First car was a 1986 Ford Escort 5 Door Station Wagon (looked a lot like the Suby I've got now...just boxier and no hood scoop). I beat the SNOT outta that thing. Got it up to over 120 mph (indicated), taught it how to fly (rail-road tracks), and also taught it to swim (3" of rain in 30 minutes turned most city streets into rivers). It always asked for more. I even rammed the thing into the trunk of my brothers 71 Ford LTD. Bent the radiator brace back into position, and replaced the radiator, and it kept running. Even with oil in the radiator (cracked block) it ran another 20,000 miles. I miss that car.
