I also agree with spart that the del sol is the best looking civic. (except the new SI of course), the only two civics i would ever drive myself.
1994 Honda Civic del Sol VTEC
stock 0-60 time 7.4
stock 1/4 time 15.8
1998 Hyundai Tiburon FX
stock 0-60 time 8.4
stock 1/4 time 16.5
those numbers are according to albeedigital.com, which list the FACTORY times given out by the companies and tested by the 'experts' in magazines that drive and time every car.
now, let's assume you are as good of a driver as OP is, OP ran a 15.1 with the same ebay i/h/e that you have. (but then again, he had an extension on his cai, and he had lightweight rims, and as we all know 5lbs rotational mass is a LOT)
so, take all that as you see it..

Vehicle: N/A as in Not Applicable, not Naturally Aspirated
all I gotta say is my friend (Shane) JUST BOUGHT A DEL SOL. No joke it has the third generation B16 already in in and just a SRI. I raced himat the course locally and whomped on himwith just based bolt-on's.
There is no way you're gonna lose to that del slow. OIurt cars have so much more top end (with bolt-on's) even if his vtec does rev to 8200 all you need is your honda-shmashin tib. G'luck, if you lose Imma laugh my a** off.

LOL I agree with Patreezy.
BTW folks, the Del-Slow (aptly named) has only 111 lb/ft of torque stock compared to the Tibs 133 lb/ft. I think my mom's car puts it to shame!
People buy horsepower, but DRIVE torque. tongue.gif

Well folks I have to disagree with some of your statements here.
If the guy knows how to drive he could launch his car right at the point where v-tec kicks in, that's what good drivers do. Also, v-tec doesn't kick in at 7k rpm, more like 6000-6500.
Torque.... it's important, but not for such light car with only driver in it. There are hondas and acuras that have 200lbs of tq, but make 350whp which brings those cars into low 12s easily smile.gif
I still think you should win though.

^^ Agree with OP 100%, two of my best friends here drive 92-95 Civic Hatches (you would call them JDM, because in the US there was no hatch with that engine for those years). Although they don't have too much torque, it's enough to launch those cars alright (92-95 hatches weigh like 60lb less than 96-00 gen) and Vtec kicks in around 6000. That vehicle well driven is a serious competition for a Tib, however, if the driver is going to launch it like it was a 2 liter torquey engine, his lost, those engines are to be driven in a different way. I am no big fan of Honda, but just want to share with you my apretiation that those b16 are really respectable, and those engines can take serious beating NA without failing.
As for the comment "Have you seen how small 1.6 liter engines are" or something like that, I don't know what you are referring to, but the part that you can actually "see" tells you nothing, I have seen 1.6 Betas (yes there are 1.6 Betas everywhere except Canada, US and Korea), that look EXACTLY as the 1.8, in fact, the difference is the same as the difference between the 1.8 and the 2.0, which is none regarding to size.

Err... not arguing that in a lot of Honda VTEC engines, VTEC does kick in around 6000-6500 engine speeds. In i-VTEC it varies. According to a lot of Del Sol owners, V-tec kicks in as early as 5200-5,900 RPM. You're right OP; V-TEC does kick in somewhere around 6000 RPM. However, the VTEC peak power can be seen at 7,600, which dies short of the distant 8,200 redline. I misread the site I got that off of.
*EDIT*
Be careful at the track.. the Del Sol isn't exactly the SAFEST car out there. I just read a Del Sol review and the guy flipped over his car doing 25 mph...yet to my amazement, still approves of the purchase fing02.gif fing02.gif
