Spare tires are no longer standard????
And the downward spiral of cheapness continues. This is from the "Build Your Own" page for the Chezy Cruze. Note that this is the LTZ model - the top trim line. Wonder how many other manufacturers will start to go this route. dunno.gif

They probably did that to save the buyer money. You'd be surprised how many people dont know how to change a tire if they needed to. And also lots of people have AAA and other companies like that so they have no need to have a spare.

That's a different story all together. The best upgrade you can do to the smartcar is put a rather large motorcycle engine in it. It's kind of a entry-level car/go cart.

There's a Smart car frame outside one of the Benz dealers here in Sacramento, I urge people not to buy these horrid little death boxes, the frame itself is all aluminum and the frontal crumple zone is the front passenger foot well (there rear engined btw). If you get in a freeway/highway speed wreck in one of these they will be scooping up your organs with a spoon.
I looked up the crash ratings on one of them, frontal impact is 4 star for driver and 3 for passenger, and your likely to break your femur because it tipped the load scale at over 1200 lb. Side Impact the doors unlatch and people can be ejected, quote from NHTSA website:
"SAFETY CONCERN: During the side impact test, the driver door unlatched and opened. A door opening during a side impact crash increases the likelihood of occupant ejection."

there's a youtube video of a 45MPH offset frontal collsion "smart" car vs. C300 mercedes. The smart car literally bounced (in the air) backwards on impact. Tell me a crumple zone will keep that energy out of your body.
Turn the smart car logo 90º anti-clockwise and it's a driver's head wearing a dunce cap. This is not a coincidence.

Notice the perfect, intact, untouched Merc logo flying off the front bumper? Pretty cool. (Best seen in the very last shot)
