Cool Smart Car Isn't. Their Sign Needed Work . . .

By now of course you know that the Smart car is about as safe as a motorcycle (read: not safe) and perhaps you have seen that their logo is a head with a dunce cap turned clockwise 90º . . . so here is the repair work I did on the sign for a local Smart dealership . . .

In Photoshop only, unfortunately . . .

Funny, if inaccurate.

Inaccurate how? The Smart ForTwo is a horrible little death box that should never have been brought to America.

Unsafe according to who?

First Gear's test:

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ju6t-yyoU8s"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ju6t-yyoU8s" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

No human would survive a 70mph crash into a concrete barrier, but the way it came out leads me to believe it's no less safe than anything else.

Crumpling and disintegrating are good things when cars crash. As they said in the last 10 seconds of the video, the rapid deceleration is what kills people - having a crumple zone allows for a slower deceleration. The "crumple zone" on a Smart is where my feet are. Not good.

Try this one:
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4k0FWvGoSM"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4k0FWvGoSM" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

^ video not showing up.

Unless someone convinces me bouncing backwards and spinning in the air in a low-speed collision is as good a sign of a safe car as a sudden stop with no passenger compartment intrusion, you can take your 18" crumple zone and shove it.

^^^ That was the one I tried to post.
Something about going from 40mph to -5mph just doesn't seem like a good idea.

Well I guess it's good that the American public doesn't really care about what "seems" good to you. The numbers speak the truth. It gets high ratings and we haven't seen anything on any news stations about large numbers of Smart drivers being killed in crashes.

That's because "they" are keeping it under wraps! The last reporter who wrote a story about it got killed, no lie I read it on the internet*

*or maybe I made it up. You guess.

How many of them have sold compared to (e.g.) the death trap old-style F-150? How many stories have you seen about all the F-150 drivers being removed from their trucks with a garden hose? It's not something I'd expect to see reported on much, unless it was spectacular like the Pinto.
