Read about this yesterday.

The most interesting part? To make it more comparible on a price basis, they went with the V8 Genesis against the V6 Lexus, which still left a price difference of over 8K dollars.
Making a new name for Hyundai?
Priceless.

InsideLine, no strangers to luxury, recently put the Hyundai Genesis up against the kind of competition the Korean automaker wants to be associated with: the Lexus GS 350. The GS 300 first came out in 1993 and had the luxury re-defining LS and ES for siblings; at the time, Hyundai was still making do with Excel, Sonata, and Scoupe, and parking any of them next to a Lexus would have laid bare the gulf. Now the marques are going head-to-head. This, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call progress.
Still, issues of cost -- and perception -- skew the comparison slightly. The V8 Hyundai goes up against a V6 Lexus, because adding two more cylinders to the Lexus would have meant a $12,000 difference. As it is, there's still almost $8,000 between them. And there's the fact that the Lexus and the Hyundai don't exactly compete with each other (we'd have thought an ES comparo would make more sense) in brief, either.
Nevertheless, it's not a bad bout, and it turns out to be one of the closest fights InsideLine has ever judged. The Lexus gets a win-by-a-nose for things like fit and finish and speed, while the Hyundai returns the favor in the highway performance and space issues. The flying H takes home the silverware by a mere two points, aided in part by the price advantage -- which, as far as Hyundai's concerned, is the point. Follow the link for the full story.

Now this is really something new! SRT guys getting scared of Hyundais?
Before, people got scared only after the races against Hyundais, not before!
THIS IS INDEED, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WHAT WE CALL PROGRESS lmao.gif

I would like to make this thread a collection of articles that compare true road/track tests. Maybe we can update the first post when they put the Genesis against the G6 or against BMW.
I can't imagine there NOT being a supercharger for that V8! Especially with the buzz about the coupe. Seeing a beefy supercharger on the sedan would make me melt

the genesis itself is the answer to our prayers. although it's not as distinctive a car as some of the lexus and BMW's are, i'm proud of it for taking a chunk of their party pizza.
although mechanically the big dogs will always be on top, it was never meant to surpass the competition but rather live up to it. i've always been satisfied about this car. it's getting a lot of notable attention. and it was smart of them to air a commercial right after phelps' achievements.

A couple of the articles I've read have already stated there is a SC coming out for at LEAST the V8, already in the works.
As for everything else, you do know that Hyundai is now the 5th largest auto MFR in the world right? They have overtaken the holy Honda.

Unfortunately I think it is going to eventually come to a time where us "old school" Tiburon guys are not going to be able to afford the replacements they are coming out with. I know financing a Genesis will almost $700 a month if you only made a $1000 down payment. Wow!
^ ^ you're talking about a Sedan, right? You can get a 4cyl coupe (possibly fully loaded) for closer to $500/mo. without down payment.
Also, the local dealership offers $1,000 rebate for current Hyundai owners.
